Issues
Rick Scott

Border Security

Rick believes border security is an economic and national security issue. Rick is opposed to amnesty and will fight amnesty for lawbreakers. Rick supports measures like the Arizona law that allow enforcement of already existing law. It is commonsense; if you are breaking the law then law enforcement should be able to ask for identification that shows you are in the United States legally. The only people who have reason to fear the law are people who are here illegally. States like Arizona are in a crisis situation because the career politicians and the federal government have FAILED to secure our border. Rick believes those who immigrate to America must come here legally, play by the rules and respect our laws. Rick will require all Florida employers to use the free E-Verify system to ensure that their workers are legal.

Energy Independence.

Rick will fight to ensure that any future offshore drilling does not negatively impact Florida’s beaches. As we explore the expansion of domestic drilling in the U.S. we must ensure that we have sound policies in place that ensure the companies drilling are doing so in an environmentally sound way and adhering to the strictest of safety standards. Rick believes that energy independence is essential to America’s economic vitality. Rick believes it is a bit ridiculous that foreign countries can drill for oil a few miles off Florida’s shores while, our citizens are getting hammered by high gasoline prices. Rick supports expansion of nuclear power, use of alternative fuels and off-shore drilling.

__**Health Care**__
__Rick was one of the first to recognize how to fix the American hospital industry. He started Columbia Hospital in 1987, buying two hospitals in El Paso, Texas with his life savings of $125,000. Columbia later grew to become the 12th largest employer in the world. Under his leadership, Columbia gained a reputation for improving patient satisfaction while cutting costs. In 1995, more than a quarter of the Top 100 Hospitals in the U.S. (ranked by Mercer/HCIA) were Columbia hospitals.** In 2001, Rick co-founded Florida based Solantic Health with the vision to deliver high-quality care at low cost. Today, the company can treat 60-70% of the cases that an emergency room typically handles – at a fraction of the cost, while patients spend much less time in the waiting room. Solantic has served more than 1.5 million Florida patients and provides urgent care, immunizations and other services over in 30 locations across the state.** Most recently, Rick led the fight to defeat President Obama’s government-run public option. As the founder of Conservatives for Patients’ Rights (CPR), an advocacy group dedicated to the free market principles of choice, competition, accountability and personal responsibility in health care, he was instrumental in defeating the public option plan that would have led to socialized medicine.** A proven record of lowering health care costs while improving quality.** Rick believes that our health care system should focus on choice, competition, accountability and personal responsibility.** Rick supports a state constitutional amendment in Florida that prohibits the federal government from imposing President Obama’s individual mandate, to protect Floridians’ freedom to control their health care choices.****Taxes and Spending****** Rick is a successful businessman who has a record of balancing budgets, cutting costs and creating jobs in Florida. He will run our state government more like a business.** Rick believes in limited government and low taxes and he will govern based on those principles.** Rick believes that the government should treat your money as if it is their own not a slush fund for their pet projects and special interests.** Rick believes that the government should live within its means just as Florida businesses and families do. He will institute Accountability Budgeting and make state government accountable for every taxpayer penny they spend.****Work and Jobs****** Rick has been successful in business both nationally and here in Florida: He has created jobs, cut budgets, and put the customer first. He will bring the same vision to Tallahassee.** Rick will create jobs by keeping taxes low and limiting job killing regulations.** Rick will ensure that Florida has an educated workforce that will allow Florida to attract new business and good paying jobs.****Environment****** Rick is committed to conserving Florida’s natural resources.** Rick is committed to preserving the Everglades.**__

As Governor, Alex Sink will bring the leadership, focus and business know-how to make Florida a leader in the new energy industry.
**Environment**Sink believes we should be protecting our oceans and coastlines, preserving the public's right to beaches, preserving land, promoting smart growth management, restoring the Everglades, and advocating water conservation.__Immigration__ __States are passing tougher immigration laws because the Federal government has failed to secure our borders and crack down on illegal immigration. While it is the responsibility of our Federal Government to enforce immigration laws, it is clear that Washington has dropped the ball for decades.____**Public Safety & Criminal Justice**__**
Alex is dedicated to providing law enforcement officials and our criminal justice system the resources they need to protect our state.
**Transportation**Improving Florida's transportation system is critical to a healthy economy and our quality of life. As Governor, Alex Sink understands the vital role transportation plays in creating jobs and spurring economic growth and she will make smart choices for strengthening our transportation system. She will start by ensuring that investments are stabilized by opposing transportation trust fund raids and seeking greater federal return of our tax dollars.
**Veterans & Military Families**As the spouse of a decorated Vietnam veteran who volunteered for the Marines in 1968, Alex has unwavering respect for the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform and their families make every day.> >
